Far Eastern Prisoners of War Ex-Gratia Scheme - Reminder to claim
In recognition of the unique circumstances of their captivity, on 7 November 2000 the Government announced a scheme to make a single ex-gratia payment of £10,000 to the surviving members of the British groups who were held prisoner by the Japanese during the Second World War.
Surviving widows/widowers of a person who would otherwise have been entitled to claim, providing they were still married at the time of death, are also included under this scheme. If you have not already claimed or have any doubts as to whether or not you might be entitled, please contact the Veterans Agency free Helpline for advice.
The War Pensioners' Welfare Service
The Veterans Agency also provides support and advice via the War Pensioners' Welfare Service to war pensioners, injured or made ill by Service, and their widows/widowers on a variety of issues covering health, housing, finance and social aspects. Welfare staff are located throughout the UK and the Republic of Ireland and can visit you at home if required. If you would like details of your nearest War Pensioners' Welfare Service office, please contact the Veterans Agency free Helpline.
